What Are The Benefits Of A Midweek Wedding?

According to the money.co.uk website, Saturday remains the most popular day to get married in the UK, accounting for just under half of all weddings.

But, of course, there’s no law stating you can only tie the knot at the weekend, even though you may have initially assumed this would be the best day to get hitched. And you may worry that your guests may be reluctant or unable to get time off work, or even that some may think you couldn’t afford a weekend ceremony.

In fact, there are more benefits to a midweek marriage than you may have realised.

Here are some of them:

1.)    It’s a great way to save money

This is, of course, the obvious advantage of getting hitched on any day of the week that’s not a . For most couples, the cost of their venue is probably one of the biggest in their budget. Yet a weekday booking can be significantly cheaper due to reduced demand. Especially during the summer and peak ‘wedding season’, the savings can be considerable. So it could be the ideal way of securing the venue of your dreams if the weekend rates are prohibitively expensive.

What’s more, you can potentially save money on your honeymoon by setting off on it midweek, immediately after the celebrations. And your guests may also benefit from cheaper hotel rates, while traffic and public transport may not be as busy as they would on a weekend. Many suppliers also have reduced rates on midweek dates too – it’s not just the venue.

2.)    You get the exact same celebration

Just because you’re saying ‘I do’ on a weekday, that won’t mean compromising on anything. You’ll get the venue you want, plus an identical level of service and attention to detail, so that everything will be exactly the same as it would be on a Saturday – but less expensive!

If anything, you may find you have more money in the kitty to splash out on any extras that you want, such as firework displays.

3.)    Make the day your own with greater availability of what you need

Sought-after wedding venues and registrars tend to book up well in advance. With less competition Monday through Friday, you’ve a better chance of bagging your first choice of location, and of having your ceremony at the time you want. The same goes for all your other suppliers, from photographers to florists, caterers, bands and hairdressers, most of whom will probably have better midweek availability. Once again, there will almost certainly be strong demand for the best operators.

Not only that, but your supplier of choice is less likely to have to rush off to another client on a weekday, and so should be better placed to give you their undivided attention, and be flexible if you need them to stay with you longer than planned.

4.)    Everyone gets a day off work!

You may be pleasantly surprised at your guests’ delight in the chance to take a day off to share your big day with you, and enjoy a break from the usual routine. Some may even want to make a mini-break of it. Talking of which, have a think about extending the celebrations (given that it’s one of the biggest parties you’re ever likely to throw) into the weekend immediately after your wedding, with, say a barbecue for family or friends, so that you can catch up with more people at leisure.

5.)    Tie the knot on a special date

Finally, if you don’t limit yourselves to a weekend party, you could marry on the anniversary of when you first set eyes on each other, the day of the proposal or indeed any other key date. That could lend your wedding a special significance.
